Tepezza Hearing Loss Lawsuit

Lawsuit: Eye Drug Tepezza Causes Permanent Hearing Loss

RPWB attorneys are reviewing the cases of people who suffer from permanent hearing loss and/or tinnitus after using the drug Tepezza.

The Tepezza warning label does not caution doctors or users about the side effects of hearing loss or tinnitus despite the fact that nearly 10 percent of patients reported hearing problems during the drug’s clinical trials. Further studies have raised additional questions about Tepezza’s impact on hearing.

Tepezza – used to treat thyroid eye disease (TED) or Graves’ disease – was approved by the FDA in 2020.

As of June 2023, about two dozen people had already filed lawsuits alleging Tepezza caused their hearing loss or tinnitus. The cases were consolidated by the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The cases will be heard by Judge Thomas M. Durkin.

RPWB lawyers are preparing to file lawsuits on behalf of Tepezza users with hearing loss and/or tinnitus. Tepezza Hearing Loss Cited In Recent Study

A Stanford study conducted in 2021 indicated the potential for hearing loss may be even more severe than was indicated by the clinical trials. In the study presented to the Endocrine Society, researchers evaluated 26 patients who had received at least four injections of Tepezza. Seventeen patients – 65 percent – complained of hearing problems when questioned. The most common symptoms were hearing loss (23 percent), tinnitus or ringing of the ears (27 percent), ear-plugging sensation (12 percent) and autophony, or a loud hearing of one’s own voice, (29 percent).

RPWB’s pharmaceutical team is seeking to help people who used Tepezza and subsequently developed hearing loss or tinnitus. We have a strong track-record with cases against pharmaceutical companies for failing to disclose side effects. RPWB also has extensive experience helping people with hearing loss as we represent many current and former service members who are suing 3M for selling the military defective earplugs.

These permanent side effects of Tepezza require many patients to pay money for medical care and hearing aids. But the losses are not just financial. Hearing loss decreases a person’s quality of life. Studies show permanent hearing loss or tinnitus can make it difficult to understand others, potentially leading to feelings of frustration, anxiety and depression.

We believe people who used Tepezza and then developed hearing problems should be compensated by the manufacturer, Horizon Therapeutics. By filing a lawsuit, people who suffer from hearing loss caused by Tepezza can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, suffering and a decreased quality of life. Filing a Tepezza lawsuit will also warn other patients about the potential side effects that the manufacturer has not disclosed.
